Hello and thanks for visiting my blog! After just recently graduating from Dartmouth College, I am taking off on an Arctic adventure for the next 6 months. I will be in and around Kangerlussuaq, Greenland for 6 weeks, from the end of June into August, working as a research assistant for an ecology PhD student from Dartmouth. Then, following a short trip back to the lower 48, I will be heading up to Barrow, Alaska in early September to work with the Barrow Arctic Science Consortium, or BASC, for 3 months doing community outreach events focusing on science with youth in the local school district.
Since I only have a little background with science ( I was a Psych major at Dartmouth), I expect to be learning a lot over the next six months! What I am really interested in is using photography (photojournalism), video and media in general as a way to explore science, data and the culture of regions affected by climate change and other environmental issues. What better place to go than the Arctic!
P.S. Check out the blog that Julia, the grad student I am working with in Greenland, and I are keeping (along with other IGERT students at Dartmouth) while we are in Greenland: http://dartmouthigert.wordpress.com//.
Courtney,
How exciting. At least we know you are comfortable travelling and being in cold climates from all your skiing experiences. Let me know how the Grundens Storm Surge gear works. Looks like nice weather for now, but my 19 years in Alaska reminds me it can be ugly often. Enjoy your experience.

Hi Court,
Nice pic! Is that Monchichi peaking out of your pocket? I look forward to each and every one of your blogs!

Greenland! Wow, one of the places I wanna visit before I die! XD
What a great journey. We just moved to Alaska (North Pole outside Fairbanks) in August. It is an amazing state.
